Usually a cut, backlit mirror reaches from the living room baseboard to the ceiling behind the stairs, where it joins with the brightness of LED stair lights.

A modern fireplace cuts a curve into the concrete chimney chest. A copper back plate extends from the mouth of the firebox, extending its effect.
