Neoclassical decoration first appeared in 18th-century Britain and France, drawing from classical Roman and Greek architecture and art. It originally featured decorative columns and reliefs, gilded accessories, luxurious swamps and luxurious furniture. Over time, the neoclassical interior style has evolved to include chic modern pieces that gently blend in with the classical influence. Now, the transitional neoclassical interiors we present here today have a bolder and sometimes more minimalist modernity driven through highly ornate surroundings. The juxtaposition of uber-contemporary versus intricate classic details creates inspiring spaces that are firmly planted in the present, with a sad look over the shoulder to the elegant past.
In the first of our three prominent home interiors, we visit an impressive, high-ceilinged lounge that is blessed with a parade of dramatic double doors. A large area rug collects the living room furniture in the center of the large room, under a few modern hanging lights.
A fireplace flickers warmly in the middle of the cool white decor. A white marble topped TV stand occupies the wide alcove on one side of the fireplace, while a matching sideboard fills the other.
The tufted modular sofa is detailed with brass ornaments that add an unexpected twist to the pale upholstery. A piece of modern abstract art draws coppery brown tones to a wall space behind the sofa.

Then we travel home in Moscow, where a unique textured carpet makes a big claim under an arched floor lamp. A linear light track cuts up through an attractive trim of a highly decorative cover.
A golden coffee table is reminiscent of the gilded ornaments of 18th-century neoclassical design. 3D wall art plays the idea of classic stucco relief.
