At first glance, a laconic material palette of cold gray concrete may not lend much to fluctuations in character and atmosphere between the different rooms and functional spaces of a family home interior. However, it turns out that the cool concrete slab makes an excellent candidate for flexible functionality and an ideal canvas on which to create mixed moods. In these two inspiring home designs, the use and play of atmospheric light take on the role of a writer or artist, writing and sculpting new scenes for life. Considered lighting schemes form warmly welcoming lounge areas, sacred family dining rooms, invigorating home workspaces and multi-detailed connectivity spaces.

A long fireplace glows through the concrete living room of our first inspiring home interior, creating a burning horizon like the setting sun.

A large swing wall lamp extends next to the leather sofa, where it is best placed to highlight the warm cognac color of the furniture.

The living room merges with the neighboring kitchen with a wide concrete pillar, which is fabulously lit by a halo of LEDs at its crown.

Textured wall panels and fluted door finishes playfully capture and cut through the atmospheric light that appears around the home, causing a deep shadow play.

Perimeter lights carve visual boundaries around the open concrete interior.

One of the many advantages of concrete decoration is that it can be molded into custom furniture and decorations, like this unique curved fireplace. An elegant leather chair pulls on the cognac colored accent that is started on the sofa. A TV wall clad in bronze panels connects with the warm hue.

The stone staircase design comes from a series of raised and lowered concrete planes, and colliding linear and curved silhouettes. This architectural conclusion creates macro and micro perspectives, each as unique as a painting.

Inside the gray dining room, a stunning domed concrete ceiling integrates the owner’s love for ancient European church architecture beneath a layer of modernity. Moooi’s Meshmatics chandelier exudes a delicate beauty in the center of the dome, where its scattered light unexpectedly converges. At night, the light becomes a sign of communion, where family members converge to share, discuss and comfort.

The dining room tends to party with a show of bright golden light.

The concrete kitchen decoration is warmed by the contrasting tones of a bronze and brown stone-covered kitchen island.

The bespoke kitchen bar looks like a luxury shop.

The face of the bar is shaped into compartments that neatly enclose the legs of a row of diners.

A pair of chandeliers drip like molten glass in the corner of the kitchen, where they highlight a sculpture Spinning chair designed by Thomas Heatherwick for Magis.

A slice of cool white LED light washes a row of tall units at the back of the kitchen dining room.

Glass blocks share light between the rooms of the textured, castle-like refuge.

Inside the gray bedroom, decisive, neat lines reach a soothing atmosphere.

Ribbons of focused light streak the ceiling beams.

Intertwined stone steps give the custom bathtub an elegant shape.

Modern wall lamps paint geometric art on the concrete bathroom walls.

Pedestal sink duo stands dead center of the bold bathroom layout.

Its own bench builds a unique window seat.

Light and shadow fluctuations create a sensory interior.

As we tiptoe into this treasured box of timeless elegance, we discover a living room that is adorned with decorative gems of world travel.

The intricate display shelf unit builds a grid pattern behind the sofa, which is evenly lit from above by an embedded light strip.

Roman Composite column capital characteristically displays smooth scrolls and curly acanthus leaves to make a striking heroic piece.

Quietly low-chromatic palette forms a refined and stable space that relieves fatigue and daily pressures.

Blurred paintings and carvings bring additional muted tones and textures.

Wired kitchen hangers descend from a beautiful dome in the concrete ceiling, where they illuminate a Wabi-sabi-style, deliberately imperfect dining table.

The concept of this home is based on the idea of a magic wooden box. This mental image strongly influences the center of the space, from its visual temperature to the close relationship between living room, study, bedroom, dressing room and multifunctional area, so that daily life is “open and closed” according to the desire of homeowners. .

Sliding doors expand or limit common space, facilitating coexistence or independence.

The darkly decorated multifunctional room has a contemplative nature, suitable for introspection, meditation and active wellness activities.

Another iron shelf and subtle mood lighting cover the home office with a serious expression.

Properly arranged containers form a curious, exploratory character within the home.

Treasures tell the story of the lives of homeowners.

Wooden ceiling is the prominent feature in the bedroom. The rich wood grain forms a dark canopy over the platform bed for a comfortable effect.

The minimalist bedroom decor makes “people” the main element in the space, to nurture a strong emotional bond.

Pocket doors close the peaceful bedroom of the joint workplace.

Inside the dressing room of the master suite, a bathroom mirror of interconnected circles draws the eye to an elegant vanity area.

Textured feature wall colors the room.

We spent years turning our builder grade kitchen into a space we loved and then we found mold. We had to gut 75% of our kitchen and start over, insurance wouldn’t cover. We were left trying to make the old work with the new and allow others come in and help. After almost 2 years without a usable kitchen we now have a space we all love to cook in and hang out. Using warm tones of white, beige and grey we turned our space into a kitchen we love. I never thought I would love a f…
