Occupying an enviable plot of land by the Beach In Brazil on the north coast of São Paulo, La Lodejo Guaecá was designed to accommodate two families. Created by Belluzzo Martinhao Arquitetos, the two-story residence is organized in a 400-square meter area. The architects have integrated common spaces and optimized seven private suites to suit the needs of the dual homeowners and their guests. As well as coordinating the extensive program indoors, the exterior of the home became an extension of interactive spaces. The main terrace houses a pool and sun deck that is surrounded by a lush landscape of graceful green mountains, while a roof terrace offers a spa, fire pit and sweeping sea views.

At the front entrance, lazy palm trees bask in the sunlight, on a bed of lush green ground cover. Stonework and sheet wood paneling give the home a cozy appeal. Perforated aluminum sheets covered the building with a stable rust-like curtain color. The material is resistant to the sea breeze of the north coast of São Paulo.

The solid wall of shutters around the top floor opens in a double arrangement. They reveal the floor-to-ceiling glass windows that glaze five of the bedrooms. The washboards facilitate cross ventilation with privacy. Even while in their open position, they are used to shield the bedrooms from the glare of direct sunlight.

Roof overhangs provide additional shade. The projections also give the house a sharp contemporary element that cuts into the clear blue Brazilian sky.

A clear glass balustrade wraps around the highest roofline, subtly hinting at the leisure that is at home there. A solarium, a spa and a sociable fireplace area await the two families and their guests.

The established greenery helps to merge modern architecture into the environment.

Around the back of the house, retractable doors span almost the entire width of the building. The doors allow the interior living space to merge seamlessly with the sun terrace and pool.

The first sight upon entering the home through the front door is the bright greenery of the backyard peeking through the open risers of a wooden staircase.

The same stone that characterizes the exterior of the building is continued inside the home to make a striking entrance. The light masonry gives the interior a wonderfully light and rustic feel. Elegant furniture falls in the modern element, while decorative vases and sculptures place smaller points of interest.

Orange accents create a vibrant visual warmth inside the great living room design. An orange striped living room rug is complemented by matching throw pillows on the sofa. A pair of accent leather chairs face two pale beige counterparts to balance the living room furniture.

The double height living room creates a connection between the two floors of the home. The double height void also provides better air circulation and admits an influx of natural light.

A wooden ceiling design adds a tropical style and a sense of comfort to the tall room. The richness of the wood stain has a visually warming effect on the simple white wall decor, and makes the ceiling look a little closer. Small pendant lights hang delicately in the towering expanse.

A unique wooden coffee table takes center stage in the spacious living room. Two modern planters and a host of small sculptures add interesting decorations. Behind the two modern upholstered lounge chairs, a liquor cart is waiting for fun.

Next to the sofa, a square end table displays a collection of candles and a decorative tray. Large-format tiles create a clean, cohesive flow between the living room and open kitchen-dining area. The same tiles spread over an alfresco entertainment area next to the pool deck.

The glass side staircase leads to the home’s private living areas, including two master bedrooms and three additional bedrooms.

The second staircase leads to the continuation of the sociable leisure areas on the roof. The roof terrace also has the best view of the mountain and sea.

At the back of the open plan living room, the kitchen is a modern wooden design with a contrasting black kitchen island.

The kitchen island contains the kitchen, which allows the chef to chat with his guests while preparing the meal. The dining bar is lowered to accommodate a regular seat height. Small black kitchen pendant lights neatly flank a sleek stainless steel extractor fan.

Integrated appliances punctuate the wooden kitchen design with brighter steel. Geometric kitchen canisters add a flash of pattern to the open kitchen shelving.

Fully equipped for the family’s hosting needs, the outside kitchen and dining area are generously proportioned. A modern ceiling fan cools the area on hot, sunny days.

The kitchen dining area spills directly onto a decked terrace where outdoor seating is situated to the majestic mountain view.

A small swimming pool is lined up next to the sun deck to cool off.

Solar panels get part of the roof.
